In ancient times cowrie shells were used as money. Today their value is mostly aesthetic and still desired by many indigenous peoples for decoration and certain rituals. Tap into those ancient traditions with these beautiful shells paired with tiny perfect spots of colour.
Brightly coloured beads are made from scraps of wood and then hand-dyed in the maker’s workshop.
These earrings are artisan Rina’s own design. She now has at least another dozen women working from their homes fulfilling orders for her creations. Small scale, home based work that’s easily picked up and put down earns every artisan a good wage whilst still caring for her family’s domestic needs.
