Time for a bit of fun for your inner cheer-leader … bring out the pom-poms! Earrings made from pom-poms, cowrie shells and recycled wooden beads have just got to make heads turn!
In ancient times cowrie shells were used as money. Today their value is mostly aesthetic and still desired by many indigenous peoples for decoration and certain rituals.
Brightly coloured beads are made from scraps of wood and then hand-dyed in the maker’s workshop.
These earrings are artisan Rina’s own designs. She now has at least another dozen women working from their homes fulfilling orders for her creations. Small scale, home based work that’s easily picked up and put down earns every artisan a good wage whilst still caring for her family’s domestic needs.
