Facilitated by Jackie Corlett
Creating connections between designers and artisans has been my passion since first moving to Bangladesh from the UK in 1989. Surrounded by this immense wealth of skill, tradition and wonderful hospitality, my textile designer’s heart was quickly hooked… and evidently still is!
As technology has rapidly evolved over many decades, I’m thankful our relationships developed slowly and quietly over shared cups of tea, tasty curries and talk of families. Now however, we can communicate from afar and use these advances to generate more opportunities for both artisans and designers – at a time when the fashion and textile industry needs viable alternatives.
In collaboration with the fair-trade-certified handweavers of Hand Touch and the Thanapara Swallows Development Society, we have crafted this streamlined course to share our collective expertise in heritage crafts. Our goal is to empower you to create stunning fabric designs that not only enhance your collections and projects but also support artisanal traditions, strengthen families, and respect our planet.

Jumpstart Your Creativity
Fed-up with having to ‘settle’ for the sustainable fabrics other conscious designers use?
Channel your innovative spirit and unique vision into your very own designs from the ground up! Reimagine fabric sourcing to include your signature style, your set of values, and your unique contribution to being the change in fashion!
WOW Your Clients
Our alumni often take their clients on a visual journey, revealing the ‘behind the scenes’ process of their unique inspirations evolving into fabric designs, and eventually into finished pieces for a collection or project. Your clients gain a deep understanding and appreciation of the true craft involved in your handwoven creations as they witness this transformation.
A Transparent Process
Where do your fabrics come from? In this course you’ll find a fully transparent process. From the creativity you put in as the designer, to fibre, fabric and finished goods, you can see everything and question anything. Together we ensure fair trade handloom communities in Bangladesh thrive. Using heritage skills, they breathe life into today’s sustainable fabrics.
Create Positive Impact
Jackie will encourage and leverage your skills as a designer – aka creative problem solver, guiding you deeper into the journey of sourcing woven fabric through this most ancient, yet now-new method – handmade to order. The deep impact your creativity can wield is far-reaching and will amaze you.
Connect with Kindred Spirits
Remember the camaraderie of designing together in college? Like many designers, you might be feeling pretty isolated with few, if any, like-minds around. None of that here! A deep kinship emerges as designers share their mood boards, designs, support of each other, and more. You’ll love it!
Join the Journey Together
KIND FABRIC alumni can re-join any future runs of the course … for FREE! In fact, designers return again and again for the inspiring rhythm of work, great community support and 1:1 calls with Jackie. You also become a member of our Kind Fabric Collective where kindred spirits gather.

“This course is not to be missed! It really is like nothing else out there. You get to design and co-create your very own bespoke textiles with the help of Jackie, Founder of Motif and her incredibly skilled handweavers in Bangladesh. It ticks ALL the boxes. It really is a gamechanger! Thank you Jackie.”

“If this class only taught how to design fabric, it would be enough. It does so much more, though! It showed me how to be a sustainable fashion designer working with Fair Trade artisans to create clothes that are magical. … I can’t help but be in awe of and honor the process. And I can’t wait to share that feeling with my clients!”
How Production Works
With the KIND FABRIC course, your unique fabric design is shared with expert handweavers who bring it to life in around 90 days from start to finish.
The minimum order is 150 yards/metres, and with all you’ll learn, that can mean up to 3 coordinating fabrics of 50 yards/metres each. This amount is ideal for fashion shows, exclusive collections, sample-making for a bigger launch, custom interior projects, or …? Let’s chat and see!
Handloom weaving is the most ancient way to source fabric, and is thankfully still available at just the time our industry needs it. When your fabric designs become popular – and of course, they will – they’re simple to repeat and to scale-up. Once you get in the rhythm of creating your own people and planet healthy fabrics, you’ll be hooked … so, it’s great we can design together again at no extra charge!

“Especially for independent designers, Jackie offers support you can’t find anywhere else. It’s lonely building a brand, and Jackie and her artisans and fabric, are much needed friends. The other designers in the course are kindred spirits as well, and the weekly class is a highlight and anchor in my schedule.”
