কাঁথা kantha, hand quilted recycled saris for generations, and still now, are made by women into well-loved family blankets, cosy baby wraps, special place settings for guests, and more. Traditional craft skills certainly endure because they’re beautiful and practical, but equally important is … they’re sustainable.
Developed for conscious designers this beautiful fabric, hand stitched by savvy women, can be part of your next collection or interior project. Inspired by their resourcefulness, this is a single 5 yard* length with 2 layers of sari and a pre-shrunk, new cotton backing to improve its strength for machine stitching.

Due to the nature of recycled materials, the final length will be between 4.75 and 5.5 yds long.

DESIGN OPTIONS: The stunning variety of recycled cotton saris means that no two 5yd fabric pieces are alike. However, if for your collection you need more yardage of a single colour or style we can very likely make it work! For example:
– let us know you want to work with blues and we’ll send pics of available saris for your selection, ready to be stitched into your fabric.
– various saris can also be cut and pieced into geometric shapes to create a patchwork length of fabric up to approx 20yds.
– over-dyeing the saris before production creates a beautiful tonal range of the main colour. Natural dyes work particularly well.
– combined with other artisanal craft skills many other options are available – let’s chat!

As we are committed to the Slow Fashion Movement, fabrics are transported by sea to leave a significantly smaller carbon footprint than sending by air and to keep the fabric cost down. If needed however, an air shipment can be arranged. We encourage you then to consider a carbon offset donation to your preferred organisation.
