This may just be the finest indigo ikat handwoven stripe that you can enjoy every day! For all it’s delicate aesthetic, this fine cotton is a close weave making it a lightweight yet robust fabric. Professional handweavers excel at this fine fabric weaving and ikat dyers are masters of their craft, together they ensure the traditions of generations thrive.
To create ikat, hanks of yarn are carefully bound at intervals and submerged in the magical indigo dye bath. As they’re drawn into the air the alchemy begins. Gradually the greens oxidise and the iconic blue that’s enjoyed the world over appears! Once dried those bound areas are unleashed and the original white that resisted the dye complements the indigo perfectly, the tell-tale blending of indigo to white where it could penetrate no further!
This fabric is a perfect example of the community work it takes to create handwoven fabrics. At least a dozen different tasks happen even before a weaver sits at the loom – each one employing multiple people. Wearing and using handmade anything ups the sustainable impact of our choices exponentially. Thank you!

As we are committed to the Slow Fashion Movement, some fabrics are kept in stock and others are handwoven to order. All however, are transported by sea to leave a significantly smaller carbon footprint than sending by air, and to keep the cost down. When needed, an air shipment can be arranged and we encourage you then to consider a carbon offset donation to your preferred organisation.
