Recycled vintage saris are torn into ribbons and hand stitched into soft 100% cotton fabric by the members of A Stitch in Time. The square stepping stones across the fabric speak of the determination this maker holds in her heart as she sews.
The base fabric is an undyed 100% cotton spaced 1/2″ check weave, an ideal canvas for many motifs. The maximum length of a single fabric piece is approx 15-20 yards or 14-18 metres. Natural dyes of indigo blue, coconut brown and grey from local seeds can be used to dye the fabric before stitching, or after the whole piece is finished. AZO Free (non-carcinogenic) dyes are also available for other colours. Dyeing can be plain or done using a variety of hand resist techniques … Let’s have at it! Contact us for details.
