Description
Blended fabric offcuts from the garment factories of Dhaka are recycled to create the soft grey yarn used in this eco-friendly fabric. Yarns are then hand dyed using local indigo, coconut and seeds for the slim stripes and more with seeds for the dark grey weft. An experienced weaving community in the NW of Bangladesh then works together to prepare the yarn, the loom and ultimately the fabric. Many hands make light – and exquisite – work! These fine natural dye pin stripes stand beautifully alone and pair well with any of the other gorgeous fabrics in this versatile collection.

Ethically minded designers & makers create with total peace of mind using our Shunno collection of zero footprint fabrics. Shunno in Bangla means zero: 100% recycled yarn, zero waste, is hand dyed using local natural dyes, zero toxicity, and then handwoven, zero carbon, by fair trade weavers, zero exploitation, in growing craft communities, zero migration for work. Together we respect weavers, build community and stop trashing our planet!
DESIGN OPTIONS: This fabric is skillfully handwoven on a traditional 2 shaft frame loom and so plain weave is the base for every fabric. The excitement starts when you think about different thicknesses of yarn to create texture, numerous colours to create pattern, resist dye techniques before and after weaving, plus the potential of supplementary weft designs is amazing!
Add to this the versatility of weaving different weft colours, patterns and textures across the warp and you’ve a unique collection of your own in the making.
Together Motif’s founder Jackie Corlett – an experienced textile designer, and professional artisans in Bangladesh, are looking forward to creating the truly sustainable fabrics you’re searching for. Let’s be in touch!
As we are committed to the Slow Fashion Movement, fabrics are transported by sea to leave a significantly smaller carbon footprint than sending by air, and to keep the fabric cost down. If needed however, an air shipment can be arranged. We encourage you then to consider a carbon offset donation to your preferred organisation.
